Kurofune is the self-titled cd of the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and piano duo by Josh Smith and Izukawa Hidefumi (Kurofune).

This CD takes you on a musical journey of the senses. It is comprised of traditional Zen meditation solo pieces as well as solos and duets for the shakuhachi and piano/synthesizer.

This album explores the balance of analog and digital sounds. We perform all over Japan and internationally, infusing traditional sounds of the shakuhachi with modern recording technology.

The following video is of our original song "Sakura" off of this Kurofune album. It was performed live at a candle light festival in Fukui pref.

Some songs have a natural ambience added, in which Izukawa san has recorded deep in the mountains, secluded forests, rice fields, as well as along the serene coast of Japan. Released in the Spring of 2009 under the MIYAMOAI Label in Japan.
